Post-Chemo Hair

Helllllo my cancer pals! I just got my hair colored a few days ago -- it's my usual routine every 4-5 weeks since chemo. Before chemo, I liked to color it, but I didn't have to. It's now all sorts of weird colors, including a spot in the front where white is growing in. It's also pretty light on my hairline, almost blonde. It was light in the front for a while, not gray, just light brown/blondish.

But now I've been coloring it post-chemo for about a year and a half. It's starting to really look like my old hair, except for the fact that I have to color it AND that the color doesn't stick to it. My hairdresser has to use the darkest dye before black in order for it to stick, and now that's not even sticking!

I know, I know! At least I have hair and it's nice and shiny from the hair color... just not at my roots! I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this?

Thanks!!

XO

Now, from a gal who has been blessed with white hairs from an early age (it goes with the territory of having dark hair, I think!) I know EXACTLY where you're coming from! My hairdresser uses some base stuff on my whiter areas to help the dye stick to the grey hairs.........it seems to work, not for ever, but for a while at least......enjoy your shiny hair :0)..........Vx

Absolutely love the color. I was going to do a similar color before it all fell out, but it's getting so thin now that I think I might just cut it all off. I don't know how some of my other chemo friends have been dealing with their re-growth--my friend Priscilla's grew back so nice and pretty that she didn't have to do anything with it (lucky duck). Have fun with the new color!

SO CUTE! I love that picture. I can't wait for my own hair to grow back... I'm thinking platinum blonde a la Agnes Deyn...

Dear Kelly, I am the mom of a 20 year old daughter who was finally diagnosed with Hodgkins last October. She just finished six months of ABVD chemo April 2nd. Her hair turned gray/clear and the week before the last treatment, started coming in a fine brown color. Can you please help me understand what she is thinking since she doesn't talk much and gets mad when she does? She went to college for 5 weeks before this happened and now doesn't want to go back to that school and doesn't know what she wants to do. I figure she is just waiting for the next scan in July as her dad and I do. I have read all that I can about Hodgkins/chemo and am trying to support her without making her mad. It is an awkward, awful place. Thank you for your site and for everyone whom you've listed. I appreciate learning what she cannot tell me. Diane Hand handsa2@yahoo.com

Can you help me understand what has just happened? I know I sound stupid asking that and I am very grateful for your site and all the others you have listed. I have read the clinical information but I am so appreciative of you and the others for opening your lives up. [Katie's hair is just now coming back like a short pageboy and it is brown after being a whitish gray/clear color.]

Hey, just because you've had cancer doesn't mean you can't have a bad hair day! My hair is a lot thinner than it used to be so I'm still adjusting. Have fun with the color.
